It may seem like a small thing to many, but to a child in poverty, celebrating your first educational accomplishment is a very "BIG" deal. You see, poverty has a specific message it tells a child - "You aren't worth anything and you will never succeed." Well, we're in the business of fighting that lie, so we take special care to make a "BIG" deal out of every kindergartner who is successfully promoted to the first grade. We believe that by celebrating the small things (in a "BIG" way), we strengthen children's self-esteem and set them directly onto the path of success.

The Making of a "Big" Deal

The day's festivities begin by marching the proud graduates through Kabale. The town praises them as they walk past in their full graduation regalia. Teachers, parents, guardians, and siblings join the parade.

Then parents, grandparents and guardians come together to hear a message from PPMU teachers and our Director, Innocent Mucunguzi. The children's progress over the past year is given as well as information on what to expect in the year to come.

One guest said, "It's an honor to meet fellow beneficiaries of this incredible ministry that has championed the education of our children. The school had wooden structures, now we are seated in a permanent cemented structure. Let's praise God!"

In closing, everyone was treated to a special feast of roasted meat, cabbage, beans, rice, orange juice and cake. No graduation is complete without a cake!

Celebrations are a wonderful pleasure for all, but they come with a cost. On behalf of our staff and kids, PPMU sends a special blessing and thanks to a dear friend of the ministry. It was because of their special giving we were able to make a "BIG" deal out of our Kindergarten Class of 2023!
